Calling all dreamers, visionaries, designers, developers, hackers and changemakers! Think you have an idea that could become the next best thing? Looking for a team to bring it to reality? In need to resources and connections to build your own business? Well, look no further!

The Entrepreneurship Hatchery and Nspire Innovation Network are proud to present Accelerator Weekend: the University of Toronto’s premiere 27-hour business-model competition.

All students are invited to join this challenge that brings together multidisciplinary teams who, with guidance from succesful entrepreneurs and technical mentors, develop a business canvas around an idea and pitch to a panel of judges.

What is in it for you?

Accelerator Weekend is not just a one-stop, pitch competition weekend where only the winners walk away with $2000: it is an experiential learning platform where you can get a taste for what entrepreneurship looks and feels like, and really discover if it is the right thing for you.

  1. Meet and work with new people with diverse skills and from various backgrounds
  2. Mentorship in the development of your business model from peer and professionals with experience in entrepreneurship
  3. Networking and collaboration with individuals from a variety of professional fields (IP law, marketing, consulting, finance)

After purchasing a $40 ticket,  U of T students, matched in teams of four, will work to build the best startup, competing for the first place $2000 cash prize. Accelerator Weekend will give you the opportunity to apply your startup ideas with mentorship from leading entrepreneurs in Toronto. Outline: Friedrich Nietzshe is credited with the origins of this quote “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” There is no more apt description for the life of an entrepreneur – much of the true learning and inspiration in business comes from the extremes of both success and hardship. In today’s talk I hope to share with the audience a couple of my “near death” experiences as an entrepreneur.

Bio: A Telecommunications Executive with over 20 years of Industry experience, Probal has held a range of diverse executive positions from V.P. Sales at Lucent Canada, CEO of AirRoamer to V.P. and G.M. Internet Operations at Bell Canada. A passionate believer in the role of entrepreneurs in our economy, Probal spends much of his spare time on the development of young entrepreneurs. He is a founding member of Toronto’s Maple Leaf Angels – an organization helping fund tech startups, , a regular panelist on BNN’s “The Pitch”, and an advisor to MaRS ICE Practice.

Speaker Series: Bijan Vaez

Speaker Series: CTO and co-founder of EventMobi

On October 1, 2013, the Hatchery Speaker Series will feature Bijan Vaez, the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of EventMobi.

Mr. Vaez has a Bachelor of Applied Science in computer engineering from the University of Toronto. Prior to founding EventMobi, he was employed as a product marketing engineer at AMD, built an award-winning iOS application, and founded a real-time RFID tracking consultancy named Traksem in the San Francisco Bay area. At EventMobi, he develops innovative platforms for mobile event applications that can service thousand of clients and attendees across the world.
