Depactor

Depactor is a cyber security start-up pioneering a new technology called linguistic fingerprinting to detect Business Email Compromise (BEC). Today, with tons of publicly available data and advances in social engineering, BEC’s are the most dangerous and effective cyberthreat. In 2019, BEC’s were responsible for nearly half of all cybercrime losses and total losses from BEC’s doubled since 2018. The severity of BEC’s makes it imperative to understand what it is in its essence; someone impersonating an employee in a company. Depactor’s technology is able to determine whether an email is legitimate or if its being impersonated by a cybercriminal. Using recent breakthroughs in natural language processing and stylometry, this technology creates a “linguistic fingerprint” for each employee based on their writing style in order to verify if an email is sent by the claimed sender.
